ICSPACE: Motor Learning in Virtual Reality
In this talk I will present the interdisciplinary project ICSPACE ("Intelligent Coaching Space"), which investigates sensorimotor learning and sports training in virtual reality (VR). In our VR setup the trainee's movements are motion-captured and analyzed in real-time, and feedback on movement execution is presented visually through a virtual mirror displaying an animated digital avatar of the trainee. In addition, a virtual coach gives instructions and verbal feedback. The talk will focus on two crucial technical components of this project: How to compute fully animatable virtual characters by mapping a human template model to 3D scanner data, and how to efficiently analyze human motions to detect and classify typical error patterns.
