Best Paper Award at EuroVis 2026
We are delighted to announce that one of our papers received the Best Paper Award at the EuroVis 2026:
D. Stelter, T. Wilde, C. Rössl and H. Theisel
Anchor Flow Maps: Efficient Sampling and Approximation of the Entire Flow Map
Computer Graphics Forum (Proceedings of EuroVis 2026), 2026.
The official justification of the committee:
This paper delivers a simple yet powerful idea: exploit the additivity of the flow map via a single anchor time. We can use this anchor to factor the 5D flow map into three 4D fields, then reconstruct any query by chaining these fields. The result is full coverage of the entire space-time-time domain at far higher effective resolution under the same memory budget, turning previously impractical storage into a tractable, elegant representation. Beyond the clean derivation, the authors demonstrate that this anchor flow map formulation enables markedly sharper FTLE and reliable LAVD reconstructions thanks to the increased sampling density, while keeping reconstruction fast and predictable in practice. The evaluation is thorough. The method’s scope is broad— it is the first approach designed to sample and reconstruct the entire flow map rather than a restricted subset—and the extension to LAVD is both natural and effective. Overall, this is a deceptively simple formulation with outsized impact: theoretically crisp, empirically careful, and immediately useful for interactive FTLE/LAVD analysis at scale.
We are honored by this recognition and grateful to the EuroVis community for this award.
